fun fact: in germany if you’re a neo nazi or own nazi regalia they arrest the absolute fuck out of you

fun fact: guess what we should do in america

except that we have this thing in America where you’re allowed to believe whatever you want to believe. As long as the neo nazi doesn’t break any laws they’re allowed to believe what they want - this is, believe it or not, a good thing. We don’t want the government regulating what we can believe.

If they want to gather and talk about how much they hate the Jews, they can. If they want to write a website where they spew hate and ignorance, that’s their prerogative. As soon as they threaten to harm anyone, or break any law, that’s when they should be arrested, tried, and, once found guilty, punished.

Clearly I don’t agree with neo nazis (hi, hello, I’m a bisexual, female, Ashkenazi Jew with chronic illnesses - clearly I’m their key demographic, right?) but their right to believe what they want without fear of governmental involvement is one of the greatest parts of being an American. They can believe I’m a devilspawn who should die, and I can believe the same of them, and the government can’t do a damn thing to stop either one of us.

Rights don’t just go one way, and when we start picking and choosing who gets which rights then how are we any better than the neo nazis?
